DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â Sophomore
Widline Thomas picked up her first-two career goals Wednesday night, but it was Mass. Maritime coming away with a 16-8 win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth lacrosse team at Cressy Field.

Melanny Sanchez Alvarez finished with five goals and an assist to up her total to 34 scores for the Corsairs (1-6). The Buccaneers (6-2) were led by senior Alyssa Discipio's five goals and one assist. Two others had three goals each for Mass. Maritime.
Discipio and Sanchez Alvarez traded goals in the first two-plus minutes to make it a 1-1 game. The Buccaneers then closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 6-1 lead after the first quarter.
After Mass. Maritime extended its advantage to 9-1 with 4:40 left in the second, senior

Claire Petersen, and Thomas all found the goal for the Corsairs in the final three minutes of the half. But the Buccaneers took a 12-4 lead into the break.
The second half was low scoring. Mass. Maritime scored two quick goals to open the third, and Thomas notched her second of the game for the Corsairs to make it 14-5 after three.
UMass Dartmouth outscored Mass. Maritime, 3-2, in the fourth. Sanchez Alvarez netted all three goals in the quarter and the defense held the Buccaneers to two scores.
The Corsairs open Little East Conference play on Saturday at home against Plymouth State at 1 p.m.
