DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â The newly named WestConn Wolves made the University of Massachusets Dartmouth its first Victim, taking down the Corsairs, 21-3, Tuesday night at Cressy Field.
UMass Dartmouth falls to 1-11 (0-3 LEC), while the Wolves improve to 10-4 (4-0 LEC). Junior goalkeeperÂ
Payton Conceicao was faced with a barrage of shots and finished with 16 saves for the Corsairs.
Playing with 11 players for most of the game, the Corsairs played a strong defensive first quarter, holding the road team to five goals. Sophomore
Melanny Sanchez Alvarez netted the first score for the Corsairs on a free-position shot for her 38th goal of the year.
After the Wolves extended their lead to 9-1, sophomore Wildline Thomas sent home her third goal of the season at the 3:29 mark of the second. WestConn would make it a 12-2 at halftime.
WestConn outscored UMass Dartmouth 7-0 over the next 25 minutes to take a 19-2 advantage. Senior
Sara Orton found the back of the net for her second of the season with 4:58 to go. The Wolves would score twice more to finish things off.
UMass Dartmouth is at Rhode Island College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
