UMass Dartmouth Beats Eastern Nazarene for Third-Straight Win

The Corsairs won 7-2 over the Lions

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Back at home for the first time in over a week, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth continued to roll with a 7-2 victory over Eastern Nazarene Thursday afternoon.

The Corsairs advance to 5-1 on the season, while the Lions fall to 2-2.

The number one doubles team of junior IsaBella Winter and freshman Zuri Walters started things off with an 8-2 win. Third doubles of junior Caroline Lemieux and freshman Bailey Clarke picked up a pairs win as well, 8-5, to make it an early 2-1 match lead.

Walters wrapped her second singles match first (6-0, 6-1), to put the Corsairs in the drivers seat. Winter then made it a 4-1 match lead at first singles (6-0, 6-1), and senior McKenzie Ferrari secured the victory for the sixth singles victory for the Corsairs (6-4, 6-0). Clarke (7-5, 6-0) and senior Alanna O'Connell (6-4, 6-4) won their matches to make it a convincing win.

Head Coach Doug Chapman on the match: "While we won pretty handedly at the top of the lineup in singles and doubles, we had to work in the middle and lower matches. We used three different doubles teams and came away with two points. IsaBella and Zuri were fast winners in singles and doubles. Bailey Clarke and co-captains McKenzie and Alanna both had close sets and then really picked up the pace, each pitching shutouts in their second sets. O'Connell improved to 6-0 on the season in singles. The match could have really tightened, but we picked up our games and rolled to the victory."

UMass Dartmouth hosts Suffolk on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
