Women's Tennis Defeats Huskies on Senior Day

Corsairs post 9-0 victory to conclude regular season

Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – It was a perfect morning for tennis as the UMass Dartmouth squad took on the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference action on Saturday at the UMassD Courts. The Corsairs – who honored their three seniors in a pre-match ceremony – posted a 9-0 victory to improve to 8-6 and 4-4 in conference play. The visiting Huskies move to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in the LEC.

The match marked the final game of the regular season for both squads. Pre-match ceremonies saw seniors Caroline Lemieux, Ailey Riddick and IsaBella Winter honored for all their contributions to the squad, both on and off the court.

Doubles action saw an opening win at two as rookie Maddie Gonzalez and sophomore Bailey Clarke defeated USM's Maggie Brock and Chloe McVetty by an 8-1 margin. At one, captains Winter and Riddick powered their way to an 8-1 win over Abby Emerson and Becky Hamel, while the Corsairs completed the doubles sweep at three as Lemieux and sophomore Zuri Walters notched an 8-2 victory over Muriel Lattin and Olivia Vance.

In singles action, Gonzalez earned the Corsairs fourth point with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Hamel. UMass Dartmouth clinched match point at five as Clarke posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Lattin, while Riddick followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at four over McVetty.

Lemieux was a 6-0, 6-2 winner against Vance from six, as Walters posted a 6-1, 6-1 win against Brock. Winter rounded out the match from one, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) against Emerson.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action next week for the Little East Conference Tournament. Action is set to get underway on Tuesday with First Round action. Seedings and pairings for this year's tournament will be announced later today following the conclusion of all other conference matches.
