DARTMOUTH, Mass. – It was an outstanding effort for the UMass Dartmouth women's tennis team on Saturday as the Corsairs won their annual Corsairs Spring Fling. UMD topped a field that included Suffolk University, Bridgewater State and the University of St. Joseph.
Bridgewater State held a 13-11 lead over UMass Dartmouth entering the third and final round, with Suffolk on 9 points and St. Joseph on 3. The Corsairs pulled even with Bridgewater State by winning five of six singles matches against St. Joseph, while the Bears were dropping two of three doubles matches against Suffolk.
UMass Dartmouth then swept the Blue Jays in the three doubles matches, forcing Bridgewater to need wins in all six singles versus Suffolk to stay in first place. But the surging Rams turned the tables and won five of the six singles matches and passed the Bears for second place.
"It is always nice to finish first in any event that you play in," said UMass Dartmouth head coach
Doug Chapman. "We won eight of nine doubles matches, and there was the difference on the day." The Corsairs were 11-7 overall in singles.

Caroline Lemieux finished a perfect 6-0 on the afternoon, going 3-0 in both singles and doubles – the spring event marking her first singles action of the season. She teamed with senior captain Mckenzie Ferrari to win all three singles matches.

Bailey Clarke each finished 2-1 in singles, in the second and fourth positions, respectively. They also teamed together to post a 2-1 mark at second doubles.
The Corsairs concluded their 2022-23 season with today's action. UMD is back on the courts on September 2 with their 2023 opener against Curry.
