Women's Tennis Victorious in 2023-24 Opener Over Curry

Corsairs post 8-1 win over Colonels with doubles sweep and five singles wins

Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – It was a solid season opener for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team, who posted an 8-1 victory over Curry College on Saturday at the Corsair Courts. It marked the season opening match for both squads.

Doubles action kicked off with a win from the second flight as rookie Maddie Gonzalez and sophomore Zuri Walters went on to defeat juniors Grace Coopee and Cayla Osowski, 8-1. From three, sophomore Bailey Clarke and senior Caroline Lemieux bested junior Sam Ferrara and sophomore Cate Pierce, 8-1, while action concluded with a close battle at the first flight as senior captains IsaBella Winter and Ailey Riddick edged senior Sasha Borkov and junior Serena Wilson by an 8-6 margin.

In singles action, Lemieux kicked off the wins at six, defeating Pierce by a 6-0, 6-0 margin. At two, Gonzalez recorded her first collegiate singles win, besting Wilson, 6-0, 6-3. Five saw Riddick post a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Osowski.

The Colonels battled back at four with Coopee earning a 6-3, 6-2 win over Clarke. At three, Walters had a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ferrara as action wrapped up with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Borkov from the first flight.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to face Lesley University at 3:00pm.
