Box Score WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Boston tennis team used a strong singles effort to post a 7-2 win over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Saturday at the Weymouth Tennis Club. The Beacons move to 3-1 overall with a 3-0 mark in conference action. The Corsairs are now 5-3 on the season with a 2-1 Little East record.
In doubles action, the second flight UMB duo of Ayonna Stuppard and Elena Albano posted an 8-0 victory over Corsairs rookie
Maddie Gonzalez and sophomore
Bailey Clarke. The Corsairs battled back, tying it at 1-all as senior
Caroline Lemieux and sophomore
Zuri Walters notched an 8-3 win over Sandra Watson and Shreya Saravana Rakshana.
The Beacons took the 2-1 lead at one as Lydia Chan and Meagan Carney gutted out an 8-7 (7-1) win over senior captains
IsaBella Winter and
Ailey Riddick.
Singles action opened with a Beacons win at five as Watson posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Clarke. UMass Boston took a 4-1 lead at three as Stuppard defeated Walters, 6-2, 6-1, while the home team claimed the match point at four with Albano besting Riddick, 6-0, 6-4.
From two, Carney recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over Gonzalez, while at six, Saravana Rakshana notched a 6-3, 7-5 win over Lemieux. The Corsairs picked up their second point from the first flight as Winter posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Chan.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Monday, hosting Bridgewater State in LEC action at 3:00pm.
