DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Powered by a combined 10 goals from rookies
Lily Nees and
Maddy Allen, the UMass Dartmouth women's lacrosse team posted a 15-10 victory over UMass Boston in non-conference action on Thursday evening. The victory moves the Corsairs to 8-3 on the season, while the Beacons are now 0-11 overall.
UMass Dartmouth opened up a quick advantage in the first quarter, making it a 3-0 margin at the 12:28 mark. Allen got things going at 13:41, burying a feed from senior midfielder and captain
Widline Thomas on the man-up. Nees then tallied her first of the game, also on the man-up, converting a pass from Allen before rookie attack
Jennifer Lins buried a shot of her own for the 3-0 score.

Melanny Sanchez Alvarez saw the Corsairs open a 6-0 lead at 9:59, but the Beacons battled back as Emily Pearl corralled and fired home a pass from Liz Kramp. Nees added her second of the game soon after, but a score by Mia Boyd, coupled with another score by Pearl in the final 49 seconds saw the Corsairs head into the halftime up 7-3.
Third quarter action opened with an Allen score, but UMB's Jamie McAleavey countered to close the gap back to four (8-4) at 10:14. Allen and Nees each scored, but the Beacons saw Teresa Sheedy score with four seconds to play in the frame to make it a 10-5 game heading into the final frame.
Pearl opened scoring in the final quarter of play, while Allen countered soon after, but back-to-back goals from Angelina Mazzone and Sheedy closed the margin to three (11-8) with 7:03 to go. Thomas responded, recording consecutive goals a minute apart to regain a 13-8 lead, before Boyd scored at 4:53.Â
Nees and Allen each scored once more, while Mazzone capped the game's score for the 15-10 final margin.
UMass Dartmouth, which held a 25-19 advantage in shots, along with a 20-18 margin in ground balls, saw Nees record five goals with an assist. She added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Allen also had five goals with a helper, taking on two ground balls and a caused turnover. Thomas notched three goals with an assist, while Sanchez Alvarez had a goal, two ground balls with two caused turnovers and a game-high 13 draw controls.

Kelsie Couto recorded the win with six saves.
For the Beacons, Pearl recorded three tallies with a helper, while Sheedy had two goals with an assist, adding two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. Mazzone had two scores with three ground balls and eight draw controls. In goal, Leah Bosch posted five saves.
The Corsairs return to action on Saturday, traveling to Southern Maine for a Little East tilt at 3pm.
