Women's Tennis Downs Lesley in Season Opener Comeback Win

Dean secures Corsairs win in clutch three-set victory

Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's team downed Lesley University in a thrilling comeback win, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon from Beren Tennis Courts. First year Mya Dean secured the match point at No. 3 singles in a three-set battle to cement the Corsairs first win of the 2025 season. 

Despite a sweeping 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles by junior captain Saige Croce and first year Ava Aguiar, the Lynx's snagged the opening point of the match with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. 

The Corsairs trailed 3-0 in singles action before first year Gianna Doiron swept Tali-Anna Sutherland at No. 6 singles for her first collegiate singles win. Sophomore Sofia Beltran then defeated Hayley Jones (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 singles to make it 3-2 match.

Sophomore Alyson Tobias tied the match up at 3-apiece with her No. 4 singles win, marking her first career win as a Corsair. The match came down to first year Mya Dean at No. 3 singles who already found herself trailing 1-0 early in the contest. Dean fought her way back to defeat Lucy Boyce in the final two sets to take down the defending Northeast Conference champions by a final score of 4-3.

The Corsairs travel to Clark University on Tuesday, Sept. 9 for their next non-conference match scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
