Men's Cross Country Excels at Home Invitational

Corsairs post 14th in varsity event amongst field of 32 teams

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – It was an outstanding day of action for the UMass Dartmouth men's cross country team at the multi-divisional 52nd Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational. The Corsairs saw the runners in the varsity event finish 14th overall in a field of 32 teams, while the runners in the sub-varsity race placed ninth amongst 17 competing teams.
 
In the varsity gold race, the Corsairs were paced by junior captain Cameron Thompson, who blazed his way to 12th overall in a field of 253 runners. He recorded a personal best time of 24:51.36 in the 8k event to finish first among all Division III runners and first among all Little East competitors in the field.
 
Next across was junior Joseph Stanton, who came across in 84th with a time of 26:33.34. Placing 104th overall and third on the team was sophomore Connor Bruni with a time of 26:52.31, while junior James Carriere took 120th overall with a mark of 27:10.24.
 
Sophomore Jackson Caron came across in 147th with a time of 27:41.10, while junior Zack Schute posted a time of 27:49.34 for 156th overall. Senior captain Colin Ozturk was next across with a time of 27:52.22 for 159th, while sophomore Jack Barbato rounded out the varsity effort in 172nd with a time of 28:13.47.
 
The sub-varsity navy race – which led off the day's action – was paced by rookie Edward Yeboah, who was 68th overall in a time of 28:37.92. Classmate Stevie MacLennan took 75th overall with a mark of 28:48.31, while junior Ronan Maloney posted 83rd with a time of 28:59.29.
 
Rookie William Johnson finished in a time of 29:14.85 for 90th overall, while sophomore Michael Gemelli was 107th in 30:01.74. Senior captain James Christie posted 112th with a time of 30:16.57 as rookie Quinton McStowe placed 116th in 30:32.76.
 
Next across was rookie Jake Faria, who was 121st overall in 30:41.84. Junior Tyler Scanlon finished in 30:53.07 for 124th as classmate Ben Bairos was 127th in 31:13.35. Rookie Jacob Marques went on to place 139th in 32:11.68, while classmate Sean Benvissuto was 142nd in 32:32.80.

Senior Cooper Blatz crossed in 32:50.56 for 145th, while sophomore Isaac Toweh was 150th overall in 33:12.85.
 
The Corsairs are now off until October 3 when they head to Lehigh University to compete at the Paul Short Run. Action begins in the men's race at 12:15pm.
