Women's Cross Country Posts Strong Finish at Home Invite

Corsairs take 19th of 36 teams in varsity race

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Under sunny skies, the UMass Dartmouth women's cross country team hosted the 52nd Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Coach Robert Dowd Course on Saturday. In the women's varsity gold race, the Corsairs posted 19th overall in a field of 36 teams, while the sub-varsity navy 6k saw UMD place 15th among 22 competing teams.
 
In the varsity gold race, junior captain Sophie Owen led the way, placing 129th overall in the field of 275 runners. She ran a time of 24:30.27 on the afternoon. Finishing close behind was classmate and fellow captain Sarah Lynch, who was 132nd overall with a time of 24:35.88.
 
Next across was rookie Alexah Pedder, who ran a time of 24:53.00 for 143rd overall. Next up was sophomore Natalya LaVita, who crossed in 25:06.38 for 153rd overall, while senior captain Tori Schweitzer finished 167th with a time of 25:20.18.
 
Sophomore Ashlyn Byrnes was next to cross the finish line, placing 174th with a time of 25:32.22 and classmate and captain Serena Carnes posted 209th in 26:31.91. Rounding out the finishes in the varsity race was sophomore Alexia Gonsalves, who ran to 216th overall in 26:44.71.
 
In the sub-varsity navy race, rookie Elena Aponte paced the effort, finishing 60th overall in 25:51.06. Sophomore Sara Lopez was next across, finishing in 26:41.89 for 81st overall, while junior Liv DeSimone placed 93rd with a time of 27:00.42.
 
Next to finish were rookies Raeleigh Levesque and Isabelle Chekares, who posted 113th (28:28.20) and 114th (28:29.40), respectively, while sophomore Lylah Thibeault was 142nd in 30:31.88. Senior Emma Madruga posted 148th in 31:17.78 as rookie Kilee Hancock was right behind with a time of 31:20.33 for 149th.
 
Junior Kyla Palmer was next to finish, placing 153rd in 32:16.58, while rookie Ruby Pazdyk rounded out the team finishes in 160th with a time of 33:34.34.
 
The Corsairs are now off until October 3 when they head to Lehigh University to compete at the Paul Short Run. Action kicks off at 1pm.
