Men's Cross Country Finishes Strong at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

Corsairs post 12th of 32 teams in Gold varsity 8k; Place 11th of 20 in Navy sub-varsity

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Under sunshine and blue skies, the UMass Dartmouth men's cross country team hosted the 53rd Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational at the Coach Robert Dowd Course on Saturday. The Corsairs competed in two 8k races on the day as the Gold varsity race saw UMD finish 12th overall among 32 teams, while the Navy sub-varsity race saw UMass Dartmouth place 11th of 20 squads.
 
In the Gold race, sophomore Declan Smith paced the way, finishing 31st overall with a time of 25:35.33. Junior Connor Bruni crossed the line in 26:21.48 – good for 73rd overall, while senior Joseph Stanton was close behind in 75th with a mark of 26:21.64.
 
Sophomore Stevie MacLennan paced his way to 87th overall in 26:34.92, while senior Colin Ozturk finished 106th with a mark of 26:53.35. Rookie Maurice King posted a time of 26:58.36 for 110th, while junior Jack Barbato had a mark of 27:14.56 for 122nd. Seniors James Carriere and Zack Shute rounded out the efforts in the Gold race with Carriere finishing in 27:18.71 (126th), while Shute posted a mark of 27:28.36 (134th).
 
In the Navy 8k, the Corsairs were paced by junior Michael Gemelli, who posted 64th overall in 28:09.33. Senior Ronan Maloney crossed the line in 28:27.85 – good for 73rd, while sophomore Edward Yeboah was 93rd in 29:07.27. Senior Tyler Scanlon finished 97th overall in 29:13.53, while sophomore William Johnson posted a time of 29:28.34 to finish 101st overall.
 
Senior Ben Bairos recorded a time of 30:12.63 to place 123rd overall, while rookie Isaiah Gagne was 132nd in 30:43.62. Sophomore Jake Faria recorded a time of 30:46.87 for 133rd, while junior Isaac Toweh rounded out the action in 152nd with a mark of 33:13.87.
 
The Corsairs return to action on Friday, October 2 when several individuals will compete at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh. Other members of the team will be in action on October 3 at the Keene State Invitational.
