DUDLEY, Mass. — The Umass Dartmouth women's tennis team rallied from a 1-3 deficit to defeat Nichols College, 4-3, at the Robinson Tennis Courts. The Corsairs were sparked by sophomore
Chloe Baker, who was a winner in singles and doubles in her collegiate tennis debut.
With the No. 6 singles match knotted at 3-3, Baker had split sets with Bisons' senior Sarah Maher, 6-3 and 1-6. Maher jumped to 3-0 and 4-1 leads in the deciding set, but Baker fought back to earn the victory for herself and her team, 7-5. Earlier in the match, Baker paired with junior
Sofia Beltran for a 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 3 doubles.
Nichols, defending Conference of New England champions, took the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 and a 7-5 victory at No. 2, winning the last five games after trailing 2-5.
Freshman
Tamia McQueen and Beltran evened the match score at 2-2, surrendering only one game at No. 4 and 5 singles.
Nichols went ahead 3-2 when Gianna Musumeci rallied past the Corsairs'
Gianna Doiron 1-6, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. UMD's
Ava Aguiar pulled her team back into a tie with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. That set the stage for Baker's third and deciding set.
