Men's Cross Country Takes Fourth at Season Opener

Corsairs finish fourth of 18 teams at Suffolk Short Course Classic

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The UMass Dartmouth men's cross country squad opened the 2026 season in fine fashion on Saturday, taking fourth overall of 18 teams at the Suffolk Short Course Classic. The Corsairs compiled 112 points in the multi-divisional meet, which was won by the University of New Hampshire.
 
Pacing the effort tin the 5k event for UMD was sophomore Declan Smith, who posted a time of 16:20.2 for 13th overall. Next across was junior Connor Bruni as he powered his way to 20th overall in 16:32.5. Sophomore Stevie MacLennan ran to 24th with a mark of 16:38.2, while senior James Carriere was 29th overall in 16:43.1.
 
Senior captain Colin Ozturk ran to 45th overall with a time of 17:06.5, while classmate Zack Shute crossed the line in 17:14.8 – good for 49th overall. Senior captain Joseph Stanton ran to 52nd overall with a time of 17:16.9 to round out the team scoring efforts.

Senior captain Ben Bairos – 153rd – 19:40.6
Freshman Evan Solger – 158th – 19:47.6
The Corsairs are back in action on Saturday, September 19 when they host the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. The men's sub-varsity race gets underway at 10:30am, with the varsity event going off at 11:20am.
