Women's Cross Country Shines in 2026 Opener

Corsairs finish sixth at Suffolk Short Course Classic

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – it was a strong and solid start to the season for the UMass Dartmouth women's cross country team, who opened the 2026 season at the Suffolk Short Course Classic. The Corsairs ran to sixth overall amongst an 18 team field at the multi-divisional event.
 
Leading the way for the Corsairs was senior captain Serena Carnes, who ran to 36th overall in the 3k event with a mark of 12:33.9. Close behind was senior captain Sarah Lynch, who crossed the line in 12:35.3 for 40th overall. Taking third overall on the team and 41st in the race was sophomore Alexah Pedder with a time of 12:35.7.
 
Junior Natalya LaVita ran to 44th overall with a mark of 12:44.4, while classmate Sara Lopez was right behind in 45th with a time of 12:44.6. Sophomore Elena Aponte powered her way to 54th overall with a mark of 12:56.6, while senior Liv DeSimone finished 57th with a time of 12:58.2.

The Corsairs are back in action on Saturday, September 19 when they host the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational. The women's varsity race gets underway at 12pm with the sub-varsity event going off at 12:40pm.
