Micah Dion

Micah Dion was named an Assistant Athletic Trainer at UMass Dartmouth in February of 2024.
 
Dion joins the Corsairs training staff after serving nearly three years as part of the Panthers Sports Medicine team at Plymouth State. He joined the department in 2020-21, being promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer prior to the 2022-23 season.  During his time with the Panthers, Dion was the primary athletic trainer for the football, indoor and outdoor track & field teams, as well as women’s ice hockey and baseball.
 
Serving as the preceptor to the undergraduate and graduate athletic training students within the Sports Medicine Department, Dion was also responsible for coordinating weekly meetings with coaches and strength and conditioning, as well as coordinating surgical cases for Plymouth State student-athletes and the operating team.
 
Prior to coming to Plymouth State, Dion was the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Mount Holyoke College for four years. At Mount Holyoke, he provided sports medicine care for 13 different sports while also serving as a preceptor for Springfield College and Westfield State University athletic training students.
 
A member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and Eastern Athletic Trainers Association (EATA), Dion was honored as the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Athletic Trainer Award and Clinical Service Award during his time at Plymouth State. He has additional certifications and formal training from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in Performance Enhancement Specialization, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and Myofascial Cupping Therapy from RockTape, as well as Blood Flow Restriction Therapy certification from Edge Mobility Systems.
 
Dion earned a B.S. in Athletic Training from Plymouth State in 2015. He spent 2016 at California University of Pennsylvania as a Graduate Assistant while completing his M.S. in Athletic Training, where he worked with the NCAA Division II football program, as well as the ice hockey and rugby clubs. During that time, he also filled the role of Head Athletic Trainer for the Avella Area School District.
