Owls' Snap Corsair Winning Streak

KEENE, N.H. – Keene State College senior Alex Haley (Laconia, N.H.) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 59th minute to lead the Owls to a 3-1 Little East Conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon in a NCAA Division III women's soccer match played at the Owl Athletic Complex.

Keene State (8-6) raised its conference mark to 3-1, while the Corsairs (6-6) dropped to 2-2 in the circuit. 

Sophomore Kayli Berche (Fairhaven, Mass.) cut the visitors' deficit to one in the 64th minute, when she recorded her second goal of the season.  UMass Dartmouth continued to push forward in search of the equalizer, earning a corner kick in the 85th minute.  Keene State College was able to clear its defensive zone with an outlet pass along the right sideline to freshman Morgan Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.), who sent a cross onto the foot of classmate Katie Silegy (Keene, N.H.) for an insurance marker.

Junior Shannon Summers (Keene, N.H.) gave the Owls a 1-0 advantage heading into the intermission with a goal in the 37th minute.  Summer converted a feed from Kathan for her fourth goal of the season.

Keene State increased its advantage 14 minutes into the second stanza, when Haley ripped her first tally of the campaign from the edge of the 18-yard box.  Senior Beverly Cole (Madbury, N.H.) was credited with an assist. 

Sophomore Dannielle Warhall (Spofford, N.H.) stopped three of the four shots she faced to earn the win, while freshman Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) made six saves in a losing effort.

Keene State enjoyed a 14-7 advantage in shots, while each team had three corner kick opportunities.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, when the Corsairs travel to Roger Williams for a non-conference contest.
