Box Score NEW HAMPTON, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team was unable to overcome a two-goal deficit, losing 2-1 to Little East Conference opponent Plymouth State University this afternoon at the New Hampton School.
The Panthers (5-7-1, 3-1-1 LEC) built up a two goal advantage with scores in the 28th and 51st minute of play. In the opening half, freshman Nick Rutherford setup junior Alex Hebert for his first goal of the season. Twenty-three minutes later, Senad Mehmedovic put home the eventual game-winner off a feed from teammate Erik Ljunglof.
In the 73rd minute, sophomore Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) scored the only goal for UMass Dartmouth (5-8-1, 1-3-1 LEC). On the season, the midfielder has been the focal point for the Corsair offensive attack, ranking amongst the conference leaders in goals (7), assists (6) and points (20).
Plymouth State keeper Felix Lindeberg stopped five shot attempts on his way to his fourth win of the year, while sophomore Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) made four saves for UMass Dartmouth.
The Corsairs held an edge in shot attempts (10-6), while the Panthers attempted more corner kicks (4-3).
UMass Dartmouth returns to the pitch at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the Corsairs host Bridgewater State in a non-conference match.
