Corsairs Split Tri-Match At MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's volleyball team split a tri-match at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts this afternoon.  The Corsairs defeated Salem State University 3-2 in the opener, but dropped the nightcap 3-1 to the Trailbrazers.

UMass Dartmouth captured a back and forth affair in five sets, defeating the Vikings 23-25, 25-19, 12-25, 25-20, and 15-6.  However, the Corsairs fell to MCLA 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, and 21-25.

In the opener, junior Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Dennis-Yarmouth) led UMass Dartmouth with 12 kills on a team-high 32 swings, while sophomore Cara Butcher (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Katie McEachern (Wrentham, Mass.) each registered seven winners.  Sophomore Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) handed out 16 assists, while junior Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded a game-high 19 digs.

Junior Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) powered the visitors attack in the nightcap, tallying 13 winners on 32 attempts.  Bowes also turned in a solid performance with nine kills and just one error, while classmate Shannon Orton (Swansea, Mass.) notched seven winners.  Perry continued to play stout defense with a match-best 22 digs.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, when the Corsairs travel to Lesley University.
