Strong Second Half Lifts Bears Over Corsairs

Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bridgewater State registered a  pair of second half scores to seize a 2-0 road win against the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team on Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.

Senior Jonathan Ferrara (Swansea, Mass.) broke the scoreless drought in the 50th minute of play to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.  Sophomore Jonathan Pires (Medford, Mass.) delivered a short pass to an unmarked Ferrara in the middle of the pitch, who blasted a dipping shot into the bottom right corner of the net from roughly 40 yards out.

Bridgewater State (8-7-0) sealed the road victory late in regulation, when junior Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) headed a cross over goalkeeper Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) for his team-leading six goal of the season. Sophomore Camilo Mora (Houston, Texas) delivered the perfectly paced ball on the decisive-strike.

The Corsair's offensive attack was held in check by a physical Bears defense, limiting UMass Dartmouth (5-9-1) to only four shots in the second half.

In net, Carranza turned away seven shot attempts for the Corsairs, while Bridgewater State sophomore Colin Jepson (Sandwich, Mass.) made seven saves en route to his eighth win of the year.

UMass Dartmouth returns to action at 1 pm on Saturday, Oct. 25, when the Corsairs travel to Eastern Connecticut for a Little East Conference contest.   The Bears travel to MCLA on Saturday for a 1 pm match.
