Henry Almeida Becomes All-Time Wins Leader

Box Score

SALEM, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Head Men's Soccer Coach Henry Almeida earned his 64th career victory this evening to become the program's all-time wins leader when the Corsairs routed Salem State University 7-0 at Alumni Field.

In his seventh year at the helm of the men's soccer program, Almeida boasts a career record of 64-48-7.  He established a new standard for career wins, putting an additional victory between he and his predecessor Ray Cabral, who led the program between 2001 and 2007.

UMass Dartmouth (3-3-1) enjoyed its highest offensive output of the season as six student-athletes cracked the scoring column.  Sophomore Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) led the offensive attack with a season-high six points, on two goals and two assists.  Senior captain Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Jason Davis (Kingston, Mass.) each registered four points.  Davis netted a pair of markers, including the game-winner in the second minute, while Chao produced one goal and two helpers.

In between the pipes, sophomore Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass. / Greater New Bedford) played all 90 minutes and made three stops to earn the victory.  Viking Nondas Kargakis allowed six goals in 63 minutes, 44 seconds, while Josh Wilson turned aside a pair of attempts over the final 26 minutes, 16 seconds of action.

The Corsairs scored on seven of their 11 shots, while limiting the hosts to five total attempts.  Salem State held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sept. 27, when the Corsairs travel to Little East Conference and intrastate rival UMass Boston.
