NEWTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team scored a pair of goals within the span of 44 seconds to earn a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Lasell College this afternoon on Taylor Field.
In an evenly-played first half, the Lasers (4-4) opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Sophomore Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) sent a cross from the end line that found a charging senior Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.), who deposited her team-leading ninth goal into the back of the net.
The Corsairs (3-4) began their comeback in the 57th minute, when the visitors capitalized on a pair of defensive miscues. Senior striker Maura Gonsalves (Dartmouth, Mass.) pounced on a loose ball that was mishandled by the Lasell keeper and didn't waste the opportunity, knocking in her sixth marker of the season. Less than 44 seconds later, junior Megan Cole (Mansfield, Mass.) converted a turnover deep inside the Lasers' defensive zone for her first goal of the campaign and eventual game-winner.
UMass Dartmouth sealed its second straight victory with an insurance goal in the 79th minute. Sophomore Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) ran onto a through pass from freshman Maggie McCormack (Saugus, Mass. / Pope John XXIII) and ripped her first marker of the season past the hosts' keeper.
Freshman Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass. / Hampshire Regional) stopped six of the seven shots she faced in 90 minutes of action to earn the victory. Senior Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made just two saves in the loss.
Lasell held a 14-10 advantage in shots, while also winning all five corner kick opportunities.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 12 p.m. on Sept. 27, when the Corsairs host Little East Conference and intrastate rival UMass Boston (3-2-2, 1-0 LEC).
