Corsairs Sail Past Owls

KEENE, N.H. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Stephan Teixeira (Brockton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lift the Corsairs to a 3-0 victory over Little East Conference rival Keene State College Saturday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.

UMass Dartmouth (7-5-1) registered three first half goals to even its conference record at 2-2-1 (7pts.), while the Owls (4-8) fell to 1-4 against Little East Conference opponents.

Teixeira matched his season-high in markers to power the Corsair offensive attack. The junior striker has registered at least one goal in his past three contests. Classmate Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) potted his fifth marker of the season in between Teixeira's multi-goal performance.

UMass Dartmouth cracked the scoring column in the 12th minute, when Teixeira finished a feed from junior Wilfred Ghanyea (Monrovia, Liberia). Two minutes later, Vidal doubled the visitors' advantage with an unassisted marker. Teixeira capped the Corsairs scoring in the 32 nd minute with his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Junior Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) started and made four saves before departing in the 79th minute. Classmate Andre Reis (Fall River, Mass.) playing the final 21 minutes and finished with two stops.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, when the Corsairs travel to Bridgewater State University.
