Volleyball Outmatched by UMass Boston, falls 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts volleyball team was blanked in straight sets Tuesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center, falling to Little East Conference leader UMass Boston 3-0.

The Corsairs were outmatched by the Beacons on their Senior Day, dropping 25-15, 25-12 and 25-10.

Senior Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) paced UMass Dartmouth offensively, registering a team-high four kills on 13 attempts in the match. Defensively, classmate Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) registered 12 digs while also contributing offensively, providing three assists.

Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) continued her strong season at the setter position, assisting on nine kills and also digging seven balls. Additionally, four more Corsairs added two kills apiece on the contest.

The Beacons were overpowering on offense, posting a team attack percentage of .347 on the evening. UMB's lone senior, Bri Sousa (Swansea, Mass.) played a major part, finishing the match with seven kills on nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage.  Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) finished with 10 kills and hit .500 in the win, while setter Pepper Baker (Tallahassee, Fla.) tallied 18 assists, and finished with a pair of aces. 

Beacons' junior Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) led the Beacons defensive effort with her 11 digs.

The season will conclude for the Corsairs on Saturday, Oct. 31 as the team will celebrate its six seniors in a tri-match. UMass Dartmouth will welcome LEC leader Keene State and nonconference opponent Salem State starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Tripp Athletic Center. The Beacons will vie for the top seed in the LEC Championship tournament as they take the road to meet Western Connecticut on Saturday at 1 p.m.
