Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Boston senior Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) scored the only goal of the match in the 87th minute as the Beacons edged University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 1-0 this afternoon in a Little East Conference men's soccer match on Cressy Field.
UMass Boston improved to a perfect 10-0, including a 3-0 mark within the conference circuit, while the Corsairs evened their overall record at 4-4-1, while falling to 0-2-1 against Little East opponents.
The Beacons ultimate scoring opportunity stemmed from a throw-in along the right sideline. UMass Boston lofted the ball into the 18-yard box, where Dasilva controlled the pass with his left foot. The senior striker eluded the nearest UMass Dartmouth defender and drilled his eighth goal of the season inside the near, left post.
The Corsairs had their best scoring chance in the final minute of regulation. Following a Beacon foul, junior Prince Odoro (Worcester, Mass.) struck the free kick into the heart of the visitors' wall.
It took a full team effort to keep UMass Boston's offense off the board in the second half. Junior Derik Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) knocked the potential go-ahead goal off the end line in the 75th minute to keep the score tied at zero. Five minutes later, freshman Matt Rodrigues (Attleboro, Mass.) stymied freshman Mohaned Kenawy's (Revere, Mass.) bid along the right post.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the Corsairs host Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
