Box Score 2 DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team split Saturday's tri-match between the Mount Ida Mustangs and the Eastern Nazarene Lions in NCAA Division III volleyball non-conference action. The Corsairs (9-10, 1-1 Little East Conference) lost to Mount Ida in the opener, falling 25-14, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-13. In the nightcap, UMass Dartmouth downed the Lions (3-16) in four sets: 25-17, 25-18, 16-25, and 25-9.
In the first match, senior captain Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Corsairs with a team high nine kills. Burris rounded out her effort by chipping in one service ace and three digs. Classmate Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added to the attack with seven kills, two assists, and four digs. They were set up by junior Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) who put in a complete effort with two kills, 18 assists, three service aces, and nine digs.
Mount Ida sophomore Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) put forth nine kills, one service ace, four digs, and two blocks. Reidy was assisted by junior Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) who contributed nine kills, one assist, and six digs. The Mustangs' offense was set up by senior Taylor Davis (Machiasport, Maine.) who had a game-high 26 assists.
In the nightcap, Burris led the Corsair charge with a team-high 10 kills and 9 digs. Senior Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) protected the Corsairs' back line with a season-high 24 digs, while contributing four service aces. Spinazola once again orchestrated the UMass Dartmouth offense with 15 assists, and chipped in with two kills, four service aces, and six digs.
Junior Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) led the way for Lions, with seven kills, three solo blocks, and one assisted block. Senior Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H) contributed six kills, 10 assists, one service ace, nine digs, and two block assists.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday October 6th at 7:00PM.
