Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Corey Morris (Freehold, N.J.) scored the lone goal of the match in the 12th minute to lift the Corsairs to a 1-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference men's soccer match.

Prior to the match, UMass Dartmouth honored its two seniors—Karim Fernandes (New Bedford, Mass.) and Morris—who were making in their final appearance on Cressy Field.

The Corsairs completed their 2015 season with an overall record of 9-7-1, including a 3-3-1 mark within the conference circuit. The Warriors had their five-match winning streak snapped to fall to 14-3-1. However, Eastern Connecticut earned the top seed in the Little East Conference Championship tournament and will host fourth-seeded Rhode Island College on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

UMass Dartmouth cracked the scoring column on its first opportunity of the afternoon. Freshman Patrick Hutchinson (Plympton, Mass.) sent a crossing pass through the box that Morris was able to redirect into the net. It was Morris' second goal of the season.

Junior Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) made the one-goal advantage stand up, registering a season-high seven stops.  Carranza, who was making his first start since Oct. 17 at Keene State, recorded five of his seven saves in the second stanza.  The New Bedford, Mass. product stopped junior Tyler Jones (Vernon, Conn.) from point-blank distance twice in the span of four minutes, including a diving save in the 83rd minute to preserve the lead.

The Corsairs nearly doubled their advantage in the 89th minute, when junior Stephan Teixeira (Brockton, Mass.) weaved his way through the Warriors defensive third and ripped a shot that freshman Ryan Murphy (Cromwell, Conn.) deflected past the right post. Murphy finished the contest with three saves.

Eastern Connecticut held a slight edge in shots (14-12), while UMass Dartmouth took five of the nine corner kicks.
