Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, Mass.) registered a game-high 22 points on Saturday as the UMass Dartmouth women's basketball team opened Little East Conference play with a sound 85-43 victory over Plymouth State at the Tripp Athletic Center.
With the win, UMass Dartmouth remains undefeated, rising to 4-0, while Plymouth State drops to 0-3.
The Corsairs began the game on a 9-0 run and never looked back, leading 43-19 at halftime after shooting 40 percent to the Panthers' 25 percent from the field over the first two quarters. UMD earned significant contributions from the bench, as every Corsair to see minutes scored at least two points with bench players totaling 36 on the game.
Ronaghan produced her point total on 7-for-11 shooting on the game while connecting on 8 of 10 free throw opportunities. Senior captain Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) also registered a season-high in points, scoring 14 while converting a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
The Panthers were led by junior Ace Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.), who scored 13 points, while Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) buried seven points.
Off the bench, Corsair freshman Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) continued her strong start, registering 13 points while again leading the squad in rebounding, grabbing seven boards. In her season-high 17 minutes on the floor, senior Marisa McCabe (Cedar Grove, N.J.) totaled nine points, including two 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) dished out a game-high four assists while scoring six points and snatching four rebounds.
Next up, both teams will return to non-conference opponents. UMass Dartmouth will host Salve Regina at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, while Plymouth State welcomes Castleton on the same night at 5:30.
