Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, R.I.) fired a no-hitter as Rhode Island College defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 11-0 (7 innings), in Little East Conference baseball action this afternoon at Anchorman Field.
Pingitore (2-1) allowed just four baserunners, on three walks and an error, to go along with eight strikeouts, as the Anchormen (13-7, 4-3 LEC) scored 11 runs on 14 hits. The Corsairs (12-8, 4-3 LEC) did not get a runner past second base as the game was ended early due to the conference's 10-run rule.
Rhode Island College took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first as freshman center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, R.I.) walked and moved over to second on junior shortstop Ryan O'Dell's (Lincoln, R.I.) single up the middle. Junior left fielder Joe Yankee (Lincoln, R.I.) plated Douglas with an RBI single. Senior right fielder Patrick Rogers (Waterford, Conn.) brought in the remaining baserunners with a two-run double to right center field. Freshman first baseman Frank Pettinato (Cranston, R.I.) and junior designated hitter Angelo St. Laurent (Cranston, R.I.) capped the frame with an RBI single and double, respectively.
The hosts tacked on three more with two down in the third. Junior catcher Matt Foley (Seekonk, Mass.) led off with a double and scored on a Pettinato RBI single. St. Laurent followed with a two-run homer to give the Anchormen an 8-0 advantage.
Rhode Island College tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth, while pushing across a run in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Pettinato went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Rogers went 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI and a pair of doubles. St. Laurent went 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI, a double and a homer.
UMass Dartmouth junior starter David Tarr (Easton, Mass.) took the loss (2-1).
UMass Dartmouth will return to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m., when the Corsairs face Framingham State University at the New England Baseball Complex in Northboro, Mass.
