Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior David Tarr (Easton, Mass.) turned in his longest outing of the season to strong arm the Corsairs to a 4-2 victory over homestanding Roger Williams University this afternoon in a NCAA Division III baseball contest at Paolino Field.
Tarr (3-1) is the third consecutive UMass Dartmouth (17-11) starter to throw seven complete innings. The southpaw allowed two runs on seven hits, walking none and striking out six to post his first victory since April 6. Sophomore Sean Callahan (Colchester, Vt.) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to collect his first save of the season.
Senior George Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) registered the Corsairs' lone extra base hit —a leadoff double in the eighth—to pace the six-hit attack. Freshman Josh O'Neill (Halifax, Mass.) recorded a RBI groundout in the top of the third inning to draw the visitors even at 1-1.
With the score tied at 1, UMass Dartmouth scored two runs in the fourth. Senior Cory DeMedeiros (Fall River, Mass.) singled to left field, stole second, and scored on a Roger Williams defensive miscue. The visitors capitalized on another Hawk error when sophomore Taylor Cacciola (West Greenwich, R.I.) crossed the plate with two outs.
The Hawks responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Corsairs pushed across another unearned run in the eighth to provide the final margin.
Jimmy Smith (2-3) was saddled with the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in five innings of work.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at noon on Saturday, April 25, when the Corsairs travel to Eastern Connecticut State University (12-14, 5-5 LEC) for a Little East Conference doubleheader.
