Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I – After 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, Taylor Hopkins netted the lone marker of the contest to lift Johnson & Wales to a 1-0 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this afternoon in a NCAA Division III match.
The Wildcats won for the second time in their past three matches to improve to 2-4, while the Corsairs slipped to 1-2.
Johnson & Wales created the final scoring opportunity, when Deja Hursey raced down the right sideline. Hursey delivered a crossing pass to Hopkins in the middle of the 18-yard box, who sent the game-winner inside the lower, left corner of the net. It was her first marker of the season.
Senior Alex Place (East Greenwich, R.I.) registered three of her six saves in the second half to earn the victory. Sophomore Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) turned aside four of the five shots she faced.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Corsairs host Western Connecticut State University in their Little East Conference opener.
