Box Score FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth striker Stephan Teixeira (Brockton, Mass.) snapped a one-all tie in the 84th minute to lift the Corsairs to a 2-1 season-opening victory over Framingham State Saturday at Maple Street Field.
Teixeira's first collegiate marker came just one minute, 44 seconds after the Rams (0-2) netted their equalizer. The Brockton, Mass. product took advantage of a restart, converting the game-winner off a free kick.
UMass Dartmouth cracked the scoring column in the fourth minute, when sophomore Junior Robert (Providence, R.I.) headed in his first goal in a Corsair uniform. Junior Wilfred Ghanyea (Monrovia, Liberia) was credited with the assist off the free kick.
Junior Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) played all 90 minutes in net and made four stops to earn the victory. His counterpart, Josh Arno, registered three saves in the loss.
Framingham State held a 17-15 advantage in shots and a slim 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action at noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, when the Corsairs travel to MCLA in the first game of the CIAO Classic.
