How it Happened

The Bears did not wait long before finding the back of the net. In the 14th minute of play, Alex Lane (Shorewood, Wis.) took the corner kick, sending it to the far post where he found Austin Read (Takoma Park, Md.) who connected on a header to put it into the bottom right corner of the Corsair net.

UMass Dartmouth almost tied the game moments later, when junior Austin Dias (Smithfield, R.I.) fired a shot from 12 yards out, but a Coast Guard defender was able to save a goal by clearing the ball from the goal line.

In the 37th minute, the hosts completed the tie, as Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) curled the free kick around the Bears' wall into the top left corner of the net from 29 yards out.

The Bears saw their best chance to score in the 80th minute, when both Brock Hassett (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Quintin Parsons (Niantic, Conn.) footed point-blank shots, but freshman Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) managed both saves before the Corsairs were able to clear the ball.

UMass Dartmouth seized back the lead for good as time ticked down. On a free kick, junior Fabio Araujo (Brockton, Mass.) fired right outside the box and Stephan Teixeira (Brockton, Mass.) redirected the ball and found the foot of Mendes, who drove home the game-winner into the bottom right corner.

Inside the Numbers
