Lasell Keeps Women's Soccer at Bay, 3-1

Box Score

NEWTON, Mass. – Junior Abby Silva (Fall River, Mass.) cut the Laser lead in half in the 74th minute, but host Lasell was able to tack on a third goal less than five minutes later to keep UMass Dartmouth at bay by a 3-1 margin on Monday evening.

The Basics

Score: Lasell 3, UMass Dartmouth 1
Records:
Lasell 7-2-1 | UMass Dartmouth 2-7-2

How it Happened

The Laser offense fired early and often in the first half, putting 11 shots on UMass Dartmouth goalkeeper Korina Miguel (New Bedford, Mass.). Miguel made four saves until Lasell's Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, N.H.) broke through in the 42nd minute.

Corsair senior Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) forced goalkeeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) to make a save moments later, but on the return from Lasell, Carly Zdanek (Newton, N.J.) took the pass from Pinksten and beat Miguel to up the hosts' halftime lead to 2-0.

Both teams held strong defensively until Silva beat her defender at the top of the box and put the Corsairs on the board halfway through the half. UMass Dartmouth couldn't find the equalizer, though, as Zdanek padded the lead again in the 80th minute off a pass into the box.
