Farias Strikes Twice in Women's Soccer Shutout of Salem State

Box Score

SALEM, Mass. – A pair of goals by senior Erica Farias (Tiverton, R.I.) more than enough as the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer squad shutout host Salem State 3-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: UMass Dartmouth 3, Salem St. 0
Records:
UMass Dartmouth (2-2-0) |Salem State (0-4-0)

How it Happened

Farias struck first for her team, finding the back of the net in only the seventh minute. Her initial shot was stopped by the Vikings keeper, but the backspin was enough as the ball trickled across the goal line. Sophomore Courtney Hewitt (North Attleboro, Mass.) was credited with the assist.

The senior captain struck again in the 61st minute of play, when she broke free from the Salem defense and buried the ball in the back of the net to increase the visiting Corsairs' lead.

Junior Abby Silva (Fall River, Mass.) tacked on another insurance goal six minutes later for UMass Dartmouth, when she collected the loose ball and fired into the top left corner of the cage.

Inside the Numbers

  •  The double-goal performance marks the first multi-goal performance on Farias' Corsair career. She has now scored three goals in the past two contests.
  •  Junior Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) captured her second victory on the year for the Corsairs, after making seven saves on the day.
  •  Sophomore Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) also tallied seven saves on the afternoon, but took the loss.
  • The Vikings outshot the Corsairs 13-12, and held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
