DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Salve Regina used solid net defense and capitalized on Corsair errors on Tuesday evening, outdoing UMass Dartmouth in a 3-0 nonconference victory at the Tripp Athletic Center.

How it Happened

UMass Dartmouth played the Seahawks nearly evenly in the first set, collecting eight kills to the visitors' 10 and using freshman Meghan Mullinax's (Lake Balboa, Calif.) five digs to keep within shooting distance, but slipped 25-23. In the second set, the Seahawks upped the attacks, hitting .129 as a unit and registering 20 digs to clinch a 25-22 win before taking a sound 25-19 victory in the nightcap. 

Senior captain Kayla Kirby (Westport, Mass.) had a strong hitting performance, collecting five kills on a .286 attack percentage and a block to pace her team's offense. Freshman Anita Sengara (Vancouver, B.C.) also accumulated five kills, while sophomore Olivia Wallett (Willington, Conn.) recorded six kills to go along with five digs. 

The Corsair serving game was led by freshman libero Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.), who notched three service aces and a team-high 14 digs. Mullinax finished with seven digs, with Sengara chipping in eight. Setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) tallied 17 assists on the night.

  •  The Seahawks collected seven blocks on the contest, the most a UMass Dartmouth opponent has posted on the Corsairs so far this season.
  •  Salve Regina has registered four-straight wins against the Corsairs dating back to 2013.
  •  Kirby's attack percentage tied a season high, which she previously set at Salem State.
  •  Four separate UMass Dartmouth players registered a solo block on the contest.

UMass Dartmouth begins league play this weekend. The Corsairs will travel to Keene State to meet the Owls at noon and look for a redemption win against Lasell at 2 p.m.
