The Basics
Score: UMass Dartmouth 83, Rhode Island College 49
Records: UMass Dartmouth (13-3, 4-2 LEC) | Rhode Island College (5-11, 2-4 LEC)

How it Happened

The Corsairs built a comfortable lead early helped along by eight buckets from beyond the arc in the first half. Junior Leah Douty (Framingham, Mass.) would open the barrage of long baskets to break a 4-4 tie less than two minutes into the contest, and UMass Dartmouth would only build from there with a 13-2 run. With one tick remaining on the clock before the end of the quarter, Douty again registered from 3-point range to put the hosts up 17.

Rhode Island College edged back in in the second frame, cutting an 18-point Corsair lead to just nine points on a 9-0 streak. McCarron would silence the Anchorwomen immediately, launching her third of four 3-pointers on the first half to put the hosts' advantage back to double-digits at the break. UMass Dartmouth then exploded for a 31-point third quarter punctuated by four more long-range buckets, and held the Anchorwomen at a 30-plus point distance for the remainder of the contest.

Inside the Numbers

  • Thirteen 3-pointers are the most by a UMass Dartmouth team in a single game since the Corsairs registered 12 on Jan. 22, 2015 at Framingham State.
  •  McCarron becomes just the second Corsair player in a decade to register six 3-pointers in a contest, joining Bri Hochwarter who notched six twice in the course of 12 days in January 2015.
  • Douty and McCarron combined for 10 of the 13 baskets beyond the arc on the evening, as McCarron totaled a game-high 20 points (7-of-12 shooting) and Douty 12 points (4-of-9 shooting).
  • The RIC duo of freshman Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, Mass.) and senior Alex Moore (West Newbury, Mass.) recorded 14 and 19 points, respectively, for the visitors.
  • Sophomore Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) generated her third-straight double-double, posting 18 points with 10 boards and junior Alicia Kutil (Franklin, Mass.) posted her 12th double-digit outing of the season with 17 points.
  • UMass Dartmouth has now won five-straight against Rhode Island College dating back three seasons.
