Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Junior Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) netted a hat trick to lift fourth-seeded Southern Maine to a 3-0 victory over fifth-seeded UMass Dartmouth in quarterfinal round play of the 2018 Little East Conference Women's Soccer Championships Tuesday evening at Hannford Field.
The host Huskies, who improve to 14-4-1 overall, advance to take on top-seeded Western Connecticut in Friday's Little East semifinal round at the Westside Athletic Complex in Danbury, Conn. The visiting Corsairs, who were making their eighth straight conference post-season appearance, end the season at 7-8-5 overall.
Berthiaume gave Southern Maine the only tally it would need just 2:27 into the match on a feed from senior Emma Dennison (South Portland, Maine), and she extended that margin to 2-0 exactly six minutes later with an unassisted marker before closing out the scoring 5:44 into the second half to complete her hat trick.
Senior Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a six-save effort for the Huskies, while sophomore Jaimee O'Brien (West Springfield, Mass.) made three stops in the setback for UMass Dartmouth. The Corsairs outshot Southern Maine by a 13-12 margin overall, as each team had five corner kicks in the contest.
