Records: UMass Dartmouth 6-1, Becker 3-5
How it Happened
Making just his second start in his three years with the squad was junior Ryan Britton (Mildford, N.H.), who was brilliant in five shutout innings of work in conceiving just a pair of hits, no walks, and striking out ten. Out of the bullpen, freshman Colin Nicklas (Plymouth, Mass.) made his collegiate debut that was highlighted by getting the speedy Hawk senior Josiah Shepherd (Providence, R.I.) to bang into a 1-6-3 double play. Junior Chase Hussey (Claremont, N.H.) also submitted an inning of work, striking out the side to keep the contest scoreless.
Scoring in all but three frames of the contest, UMass Dartmouth erupted for 14 runs over eight innings. Contributions came from all around as ten different Corsairs picked up base-hits, and four having multi-hit performances. Senior Zach Courier (Mansfield, Mass.) went 2-for-2 at the dish, scoring a pair and driving in two as well. Not only did freshmen Carter Peterson (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Dan Steiner (Tolland, Conn.) join Nicklas in making their collegiate debut, but the first-year student athletes notched their first career hits on the afternoon while each scoring a run.
