Box Score BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior JR DiSarcina (Barnstable, Mass.) rapped out three hits and drove in four runs to lead UMass Dartmouth to an 8-2 Little East Conference baseball victory over 23rd-ranked UMass Boston Tuesday afternoon at Monan Park.
The host Corsairs (6-9, 1-2 LEC), who posted their second win over a nationally-ranked opponent on the season with the triumph, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat on back-to-back RBI doubles off the bat of junior Mike Knell (Dennis, Mass.) and senior Jack Harrington (Barnstable, Mass.). DiSarcina's two-run double and an error highlighted a three-run fourth inning uprising that extended UMass Dartmouth's edge to 5-0, and the visitors added three more tallies in the fifth after freshman Jon Candiales (Attleboro, Mass.) drew a bases loaded walk and DiSarcina followed with a two-run single. The host Beacons (8-5, 2-1 LEC) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on junior Anthony Cecere's (Wakefield, Mass.) two-run single, but that would prove to be the final scoring in the contest for either side.
Harrington and senior Chris Wood (Berkley, Mass.) joined DiSarcina with three hits each as part of a 13-hit attack for the Corsairs, who received two hits from Knell and a triple off the bat of freshman Tyler Lyons (Wallingford, Conn.). Sophomore Tucker Hetherman (Webster, Mass.) scattered five hits and struck out six over the first six innings on the mound to even his record at 1-1 on the season for UMass Dartmouth, as junior Nate Tellier (Attleboro, Mass.) tossed three scoreless frames and fanned six to pick up his first save of the spring.
Senior Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) picked up the lone extra base hit as part of a five-hit attack in the setback for UMass Boston, as freshman Dylan Fashempour (Redlands, Calif.) allowed four earned runs and struck out four over the first four innings of work to fall to 1-1 for the Beacons.
