Box Score

PLYMOUTH, N.H. --  Junior Jake Gerbner (Havertown, Pa.) netted a pair of goals to lead Plymouth State to a 7-3 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday evening at Hanaway Rink.

The host Panthers (9-7-2, 9-1-1 MASCAC) overcame a 1-0 second period deficit by scoring three times in less than four minutes late in the stanza, as Gerbner capped the outburst with 2:16 remaining in the frame.  Freshman Marcus Seidl (Stockholm, Sweden) extended Plymouth State's lead to 4-1 with a power play tally that came with 6:27 to play in the contest, but the visiting Corsairs (5-10-2, 4-5-1 MASCAC) closed back to within a pair on power play markers off the sticks of junior Kai Kapossy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and senior Cameron Mack (Long Beach, Calif.) that sandwiched Gerbner's shorthanded empty-netter.  The hosts then iced their triumph with two more empty netters from sophomores Mike McPherson (Somerville, Mass.) and Jarrett Slear (West Chester, Pa.) in the last 1:44 of action that accounted for the final margin.

McPherson added an assist to finish with a pair of points on the night for the Panthers, who also received tallies from senior Drake Longaker (Gilroy, Calif.) and junior JR Barone (West Chester, Pa.).  Junior Peter Laviolette (Brentwood, Tenn.) collected two assists for Plymouth State, which received single helpers off the sticks of senior Alec LeFave (Hudson, N.H.), junior Brandon Barillaro (Alexandria, Ont.), sophomore Simon Besner (North Lancaster, Ont.) and freshman Jacob Laurin (Stockholm, Sweden).

Junior Dillon Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) accounted for the other goal in the setback for UMass Dartmouth, which received a pair of points from Mack along with single assists from senior Steven Leonard (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) and senior David Skarbek (Hyannis, Mass.).  Senior Andres Pettersson (Trollhattan, Sweden) earned the win in goal for Plymouth State with a 24-save effort that included an assist on offense, while freshman Daniel Davidson (Surrey, B.C.) recorded a career-high 41 stops between the pipes for the Corsairs.  The Panthers outshot UMass Dartmouth by a 48-27 margin and a 52-30 advantage in the faceoff circle for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth hosts Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday evening at Hetland Arena that faces off at 7:20 pm, while Plymouth State returns to action next Saturday, February 1st when the Panthers travel to Salem, Mass. to square off with Salem State in a MASCAC outing that faces off at 1:00 pm.
