Just four years after their inaugural varsity match, the UMass Dartmouth women's soccer team earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III championships in 1992.
The Corsairs tied Salem State 2-2 in the opener and eventually advanced on Beth Kelly's game-winning goal in penalty kicks. From there, Leanne Morris wore the hero's crown, scoring the lone goal in a pair of 1-0 wins over Keene State and Plymouth State to lead UMass Dartmouth to a berth in the Division III Final Four.
Morris provided the margin of victory once again in a 1-0 national semifinal against host Mary Washington, but the Corsairs' magical run through the tournament was finally halted when UMass Dartmouth fell to Cortland State for the national championship contest.
The 1992 women's soccer team was inducted into the Corsair Athletic Hall of Fame four years after their run to the NCAA title match, led by Head Coach Ray Cabral and assistants Manuel Martin and Antonio Neves. Team members were Rachael Barbarossa, Marybeth Callahan, Michelle Eaton, Heather Egan, Annmarie Gagnon, Kimberly Gamache, Lisa Gomes, Mary Ellen Gregory, Elizabeth Kelly, Kristen Kyle, Beth Krumsiek, Melissa Mandracchia, Amy Melville, Leanne Morris, Kathleen Regan, Kimberly Serrecchia, Julie Smalley, Kimberly Taylor and Laura Sherman.
Eight members of the squad, including Cabral, have been enshrined as individual inductees into the Corsair Athletic Hall of Fame.
