Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Freshman Daniel Davidson (Surrey, B.C.) made 38 saves to record his second shutout of the season in goal, as UMass Dartmouth and Fitchburg State played to a scoreless overtime draw in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at the Wallace Civic Center.
Davidson, who blanked Salem State by a 2-0 final in his last start a week ago, recorded 19 stops in the final 25 minutes of action for the visiting Corsairs (10-11-3, 9-6-2 MASCAC). Junior Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) matched Davidson by stopping all 35 shots he faced between the pipes for the host Falcons (13-7-4, 10-3-4 MASCAC), who clinched second place in the conference standings and a bye into the semifinals of the upcoming league tournament with the result. Fitchburg State held a 33-29 edge at the face off dot for the contest, as the two teams each recorded a win, loss and tie in their three regular season matchups this winter.
UMass Dartmouth travels to Westfield, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Westfield State in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale that faces off at 7:35 pm. The Corsairs enter that clash tied with the Owls for first place in the league standings, and a win or tie will give UMass Dartmouth the number three seed in the MASCAC tournament and a home quarterfinal round matchup with Worcester State next Saturday. A Westfield State victory gives the Owls the number three seed, and the loser of the contest would host Salem State in the conference quarterfinals as the number four seed.
Fitchburg State heads to Worcester, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon for its MASCAC finale with Worcester State that faces off at 4:40 pm.
