Ice Hockey Nets 4-1 MASCAC Victory At Framingham State

Box Score

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Four different players scored goals to back a 35-save effort from freshman Daniel Davidson (Surrey, B.C.) between the pipes, as UMass Dartmouth extended its winning streak to three straight with a 4-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey victory over Framingham State Thursday evening at Loring Arena.

The visiting Corsairs (8-10-2, 7-5-1 MASCAC), who closed to within four points of the top spot in the league standings with the triumph, overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring three times in the final 8:03 of the opening period.  Freshman Ryan Mascali (Franklin, Tenn.) evened matters with his first career tally for UMass Dartmouth, while markers off the sticks of sophomore Jimmy Pelton (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Kai Kapossy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) gave the visitors a 3-1 cushion after the first 20 minutes of action.  Senior Cameron Mack (Long Beach, Calif.) closed out the scoring with his 11th goal of the season 4:47 into the middle stanza, and Davidson took care of the rest between the pipes by stopping 26 of 27 shots over the first two periods to pick up his second win of the year.

Sophomore Derek Britner (Salem, N.H.) collected a pair of assists on the night for the Corsairs, who received single helpers off the sticks of juniors Dillon Radin (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Eric Bolden (Oswego, Ill.) as well as sophomore Pat Twombly (Hull, Mass.).  Freshman Matt Paiotti (Oakland, N.J.) staked the host Rams (2-16-2, 1-11-1 MASCAC) to the early 1-0 lead on feeds from juniors Soren Colstrup (Owatonna, Minn.) and Jack Pierson (Northville, Mich.), but that would prove to be the only tally of the evening for Framingham State.

Senior Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) made 17 saves in the first 24:47 of action in net for the hosts, who received 24 stops from freshman Blake Carlson (Clermont, Fla.) in relief.  UMass Dartmouth outshot the Rams by a 50-36 margin and held a 37-30 edge at the face off dot for the contest, as the Corsairs swept the three-game regular season series from Framingham State by a combined 18-3 margin.

UMass Dartmouth travels to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday evening for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup with Worcester State that faces off at 7:10 pm, while Framingham State heads to Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday evening for a MASCAC clash with Plymouth State that faces off at 6:00 pm.
