Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Senior Ashley Brown (New Bedford, Mass.) scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded three steals to lead three players in double figures, as UMass Dartmouth posted a 62-44 Little East Conference women's basketball victory over Plymouth State Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium.
The visiting Corsairs (12-9, 7-5 LEC) opened up a one-point first quarter lead (13-12) and used 12 unanswered points over a four minute stretch in the second stanza to break things open and build a 33-19 advantage at the break. UMass Dartmouth built that margin as high as 21 points in the second half in collecting its fourth win in five outings, as the host Panthers (4-17, 0-12 LEC) got no closer than nine points in the final 4:32 of the contest.
Junior Lauren Empey (Middleboro, Mass.) added 11 points, four rebounds and four steals on the day for the Corsairs, who received 10 points and nine boards from sophomore Jordan Moretti (Johnston, R.I.). Senior Kayla McMahon (Hanover, Mass.) and junior Meagan Donovan (Abington, Mass.) each chipped in with seven points for the winners, who collected six points and seven caroms from sophomore Shaelyn Carreiro (Fall River, Mass.). UMass Dartmouth overcame a 28 percent shooting performance by outscoring Plymouth State by a 26-13 margin at the foul line, as the visitors held a 41-39 rebounding edge to complete a two-game regular season sweep of the hosts.
Senior Chenysse Hill (Lynn, Mass.) scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the setback for the Panthers, who received nine points and 12 boards from senior Alex Ricard (Manchester, N.H.). Freshmen Jalen Cook (Monkton, Vt.) and Bella Earle (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored nine points and combined for seven caroms for Plymouth State, which also shot 28 percent from the floor that included a 1-of-10 effort from behind the three point line.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Keene State in a Little East Conference outing on Wednesday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center that tips-off at 5:00 pm, while Plymouth State travels to Gorham, Maine on Wednesday evening for a Little East clash with Southern Maine that tips-off at 5:30 pm.
