DARTMOUTH, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team saw their five-match winning streak broken up at the hands of UMass Boston, 3-0, Wednesday night at the Tripp Athletic Center.
For the Corsairs (8-7, 3-2 LEC), sophomore
Devon Laing led the team with 10 kills with eight digs, while freshman
Kate Wade recorded seven kills and nine digs. Graduate student Emilia Czapiewska led the Beacons (8-11, 2-3 LEC), who snapped a three-match losing streak, with 10 kills and two blocks.
UMass Boston jumped ahead to a 14-5 lead in the first and did not look back, never letting the Corsairs get closer than five points the rest of the way in a 25-17 set victory.Â

The second set was far closer with the Beacons earning their largest lead of the set early on at 9-4. UMass Dartmouth kept it close until the Beacons went on a 6-2 run to make it a 22-16 lead after four kills. UMass Boston officially made it a 2-0 lead after an ace closed out the set at 25-20.Â

The Corsairs kept it close with UMass Boston through the first 18 points, making it 10-8 UMB. The Beacons then went on a 5-0 run to make it 15-8. UMass Boston then closed it out on a kill to make it 25-19 in the third set.Â

UMass Dartmouth hosts a tri-match on Saturday. The Corsairs first face WestConn at 12, followed by Salve Regina at 4 p.m.
