Perry's Overtime Winner Boosts Corsairs Over Bears

Perry scored her 10th goal of the season

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – 5th-year senior Brittany Perry connected on the game-winning goal 2:10 into overtime to lift the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup on Wednesday night at Swenson Field.

The Corsairs improve to 6-10 on the season and 5-5 in the Little East with the win, while the Bears fall to 4-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play. It was Perry's team-leading 10th goal of the season and fourth game winner.

After a scoreless 60 minutes of action, the Corsairs capitalized in transition during the early stages of the first overtime session. After beating a defender, junior midfielder Mya Amaral sent a pass to a wide open Perry who beat the oncoming BSU goalkeeper one-on-one with a backhand shot into the right side of the cage.

UMassD's freshman goalie Alyssa McDonough made three saves to record her sixth win of the season and second shutout.

The Corsairs held a 19-10 shot advantage for the game as well as a 9-2 edge in penalty corner attempts.

The Little East schedule continues on Saturday. The Corsairs travel to Fitchburg State for an 11 a.m. game against the Falcons.
