Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cochran Scores in 2-1 Setback at Mass. Maritime

It was his second goal of the season

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Senior Will Cochran put the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team ahead early, but two goals from Mass. Maritime were the difference in a 2-1, non-conference, setback Tuesday night on the road.

It was an evenly matched contest as the Corsairs (5-3-1) finished with 16 shots with six on goal and seven corner kicks, while the Buccaneers (3-7-0) tallied 17 shots, nine on goal, and 10 corners.

Senior goalkeeper Jake Castro finished the night with seven saves.

It took only 56 seconds for UMass Dartmouth to get on the board. Freshman Lucas Passaro sent a cross that was chased down and overran by the Mass. Maritime keeper, leaving the net open for Cochran, who gave the Corsairs a 1-0 advantage.

It was back-and-forth as the first half continued. The Buccaneers knotted things up in the 31st minute when senior Benjamin Cook found the back of the net off an assist from freshman Nicholas Vanti. UMass Dartmouth answered with two quick shots, but both were saved to keep the score even.

Mass. Maritime wasted no time taking the lead in the second half. It was junior McNeill Somers who scored the game winner in the 47th minute.

UMass Dartmouth had a couple more chances to tie the game back up, but were unsuccessful.

The Corsairs resume LEC play Friday night at 7 p.m. against Keene State to get Blue & Gold weekend started at Cressy Field.
