SWASHBUCKLING BLUE & GOLD WEEKEND SHOWDOWN
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team look to remain undefeated at home when they take on Mass. Maritime at 2:30 p.m. at Cressy Field. The Corsairs are coming off a tough road loss at WestConn and are 3-2 and 1-2 in the MASCAC. The Buccaneers have had a strong year with a 3-1 record and 2-0 in the conference.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UMass Dartmouth dropped a key game to WestConn, 34-19, last Saturday night at the Westside Athletic Complex.
  • Sophomore quarterback Dante Aviles-Santos finished with 169 passing yards and a touchdown, adding 24 yards on the ground with a rushing TD.
  • Junior running back Luis Gonzalez rushed for 75 yards and a score, while 5th-year senior wide receiver Douglas Machado had 69 receiving yards and a TD.
  • Senior JP Mason led all players with a career-high 18 tackles with 14 solo. 5th-year senor Sean Reall finished with nine tackles, seven solo, and junior Josh Lacerte had eight tackles. 
  • For WestConn, sophomore quarterback Mack Driver took home three touchdowns, while junior tailback Chad Blasky ran one in as well. Freshman quarterback John Giller tossed a TD to classmate Julian Ferguson.
 TROD HAROLD JR. TO THE HALL
  • Trod Harold Jr. '10 will be honored at halftime for his induction into the Corsair Hall of Fame.
  • Harold ranks first in career rushing yards (4,023), rushing yards in a season (1,567), single-season rushing yards per game (162.3), rushing touchdowns (42), and single season rushing touchdowns with 16 which he did twice in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
  • He is the second Corsair running back to eclipse the thousand-yard plateau and is the only player in UMassD history to gain over 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.
 OFFENSE KEEPS ROLLING
  • As we hit the mid-point of the season, there is no doubt who has the most firepower in the MASCAC.
  • UMass Dartmouth ranks first in points (161), points per game (32.2), yards per game (416.0) and passing touchdowns (14).
  • They also lead the MASCAC with 2,080 yards of total offense, they are the only team to eclipse the 2,000 mark so far this season.
  • Machado continues to put up monster numbers, he leads the MASCAC in receiving touchdowns (6) and is second in yards (97.6).
  • Gonzalez is second in rushing yards per game (78.4), while freshman Marvens Jean is third (67.6). Gonzalez is fourth in rushing touchdowns (4), while jean is tied for fifth (3).
  • Aviles-Santos is still the league leader with 12 passing touchdowns and is third in the MASCAC with 192.6 passing yards per game.
DEFENSIVE STATS
  • The Corsairs are allowing 25.8 points per game, which is fifth in the MASCAC.
  • UMassD is tied for second in the league lead in interceptions (4) and is fifth in the league in passing defense (175.6) and tackles per game (66.2).
  • Freshman linebacker Sam Alicea is tied for fourth in the conference second with four sacks.
 CAN'T BEAT US AT CRESSY
  • UMass Dartmouth has put up unreal numbers this season at Cressy Field.
  • The Corsairs average 50 points per game and are outscoring opponents 100-36 on campus.
  • The team also averages 570 yards of total offense at Cressy, while the defense holds opponents to 294.5 yards of offense.
SCOUTING MMA
  • Mass. Maritime is off to a 3-1 start with MASCAC wins over Fitchburg State (28-0) and Westfield State (16-8).
  • The Buccaneers are sixth in the conference in points per game (17.8) and yards per game (259.8).
  • MMA's defense ranks first in the MASCAC (9.3 ppg). Its strength is rushing defense as they only allow 44.8 yards per game on the ground. Mass. Maritime is first in the league with two defensive touchdowns, second with four interceptions and third with 10 sacks.
  • Senior quarterback Curtis Cann is fourth in passing yards with 153.0, while sophomore Andrew Brightman is fourth in conference with 82.3 receiving yards per game.
 BUCCANEERS' LAST TIME OUT
  • Mass. Maritime defeated Westfield State 16-8 last Saturday.
  • Quarterback Curtis Cann completed seven of 13 passes for 90 yards, a touchdown and an interception
  • Senior Captain Conner Reynolds ran for 36 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Kobe Copeland led both teams with 66 yards rushing.
  • Andrew Brightman caught five passes for 36 yards and a touchdown in the win.
  • Defensively, Cole Keefe led all players with nine tackles. He also had a sack.
