BRISTOL, R.I. -Â In its final tune-up before conference play, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team had six players score in double figures in a 102-71 win at Roger Williams Sunday afternoon.
The Corsairs (7-1) led the entire game, shot 17-of-31 (54.8%) from beyond the arc, led the rebounding margin, 43-28, had every starter score in double figures, and got 42 points from the their bench.
Graduate student
Jake Ashworth led the Corsairs with 18 points, knocking down six 3-pointers, with four steals and four assists. 5th-year senior
Jarron Santos scored a season-high 16 points off the bench on 7-of-9 shooting, while seniors
Sean Leahy and
Adam Seablom each chipped in 11 points, and junior
Jackson Zancan had 10 points. Senior
Marcus Azor continued to do it all, finishing with 10 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Senior
Dhalyn Sanders-Dyer tallied four points, seven rebounds and five assists, while sophomore
Mike Eurquhart notched five points, nine boards and two blocks.Â
For the Hawks (3-2), 5th-year senior Drew Hart led the team with 19 points and five rebounds.
Ashworth and Zancan each hit 3-pointers, Azor went inside for a layup and Zancan knocked down a jumper to give UMass Dartmouth a 10-2 lead at the 16:34 mark of the first half. Azor then found Zancan and Leahy underneath for back-to-back buckets and Ashworth sunk consecutive triples to extend the advantage to 20-5 with 14:20 on the clock.
The threes continued to fall in the first half as Zancan, junior
John Martins Jr., Ashworth and Seablom all connected to make it a 37-19 game with 5:10Â until the half. Seablom then drilled another triple sandwiched between a pair of dunks by Azor and Eurquhart, and Santos hit two more from beyond the arc to make the halftime lead, 56-32.
An Ashworth steal and assist for an Azor dunk set the tone for the second half. Leahy had seven-straight Corsair points, and Ashworth knocked down two more from long range to build the lead to 71-40 with 14:40 to go. Santos, Sanders-Dyer and Azor kept it going with paint points and Seablom made a three, hit a jumper and assisted on a triple to sophomore
Isaac Percy to make it 85-51 at the 8:36 mark. Percy connected on another 3-pointer and Santos continued to score in the final minutes as the Corsairs cruised the victory.
UMass Dartmouth will now get ready for its Little East Conference (LEC) opener at Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
